"I have known Mark for almost 14 years and got to know him through church, small group Bible studies and the occasional fishing trip. Then in 2004, I was hit with two events that turned my life upside down. Within a small period of time, I lost my job as a dean at a major university, and my wife walked out of our 28-year marriage. Needless to say, I was crushed and felt hopeless. I was spinning out of control.  I then received a call from Mark; he wanted to get together. We began meeting on a fairly regular basis. Although we did not have a formal coaching relationship, as I look back now, the level of coaching skills Mark exhibited at the time is very clear. He accepted me and my situation without judgment or quick clichéd answers. He carefully listened and helped me probe my situation from different directions, while at the same time giving me the encouragement and hope I needed. But he didn’t stop there. He also began helping me set new goals and to look to the future with hope. He coached me in exploring all the various options available to me, as well as helped me to develop a realistic plan in reaching my goals. It was clear then, as it is now, that God was using Mark to help me get through what seemed like an impossible life situation. And because of this firsthand experience with Mark, I can highly recommend him in coaching anyone going through a difficult life situation or just looking for some new direction and a clear plan."
